Who We Are

Hello, and thank you for looking into Prelude Assistance Dogs. Our names are Leanne (left) and Emily (right.) We are passionate about bringing service and therapy dog training to Iowa, in a way that is accessible to more of our community. Our dog training journey began when Emily was diagnosed with her disability. We always loved dogs, but until then it did not occur to us that a service dog may be the right option for our family. Many organizations near us at the time were unable to help. They were too expensive, unable to take new clients, or simply did not take people like us. We looked into training a service dog on our own, but were unskilled at the time. We ended up going with a trainer who took us on a ride all while charging us exorbitant amounts of money. We ended up with less money in our pockets, and still at square one. Emily went on to work for a successful dog training franchise for many years, along the way learning how to train her own dog, and becoming a therapy dog evaluator. Her first successful service dog, a German shepherd named Louise, was retired early due to an injury. Now accompanied by her current service dog, a Belgian Malinois named Juno, Emily and Leanne strive to offer quality service dog training at a more affordable cost. Louise, the retired service dog, went on to be one of our first therapy dogs on our team, and continues to offer joy to members of our community. Whether you are looking for a service dog for yourself or a loved one or looking to train a therapy dog to serve in the community, Prelude Assistance Dogs is here to help you, and be with you on this journey to a more accessible future.
